Villa Rozenhage

Behind a hedge of roses the inhabitants of this villa came and went. The painter Johannes Warnardus Bilders, among others, chose this idyllic spot in 1880 to enjoy the landscape and to paint together with his wife Maria Bilders van Bosse. A German general stayed in the villa during the Second World War. The shutters were then used to support trenches, otherwise the damage was limited. Over the years, the small skylights have been made larger and the outer walls plastered white. But the roses still color the original house facing the floodplains.
