The village of Heijningen was also hit hard during the 1953 Flood Disaster. As a result of the disaster, the village faced a great shortage of housing. That is why Sweden donated a number of flood houses made of wood. One of these monumental houses now houses the Heijningen Watersnoodwoning Museum Foundation.
