van Lennep route
Sterrebos Groningen
The Sterrebos was created in 1765 as a forest in which eight paths fanned out in different directions from a central center. In 1823 Jacob van Lennep and Dirk van Hogendorp make a detour through the still intact Sterrebos. From one of the avenues they enjoy the view of the Martini Tower. That is no longer possible. The original design was replaced at the end of the nineteenth century by the winding paths that characterize the English landscape style. Moreover, the forest has been enclosed by modern times.
