Oude Ruigezandsterpolder

This polder was once a small island in the Lauwerszee. The area has been reclaimed in parts from 1655. Most of the polder was embanked between 1794 and 1797 by the brothers Aedsge and Douwe Teenstra, famous agricultural pioneers. The farm that Aedsge had built is located at Teenstraweg 7, that of Douwe at number 9.
