Kasteelplaats Dieden
Dieden is located on the banks of the Maas. It was originally an independent manor, which was part of the Land van Maas en Waal. A castle was built here in 1369. The Duke of Gelre conquered it in 1399 because he could use an outpost, between the castles of Batenburg and Appeltern on the other side of the Maas. The duke was able to defend himself against the Brabant people at this fordable place in the Maas. The castle was demolished in 1876 but the moat, pieces of wall and the beautiful round stone tower mill of 'ut kesteelske' are still there.
