Provinciedomein Kemmelberg
The purchase in 1995 of 21 ha of forest on top of the Kemmelberg is the start of the creation of a new provincial domain. In the following years, the provincial government buys land and forests around the Kemmelberg. After all, the Kemmelberg is located in a European protected nature reserve. With the forest expansion of more than 50 ha, the province contributes to the protection of European oak forests. In 2017, the provincial domain covers 155 ha. You explore it preferably via the provincial walk of 8 km that starts and ends at the visitor center in Kemmel. In May, you can enjoy the purple hyacinths at the top of the Kemmelberg. Along the way you can admire the many views and the meandering hedges. The province manages the meadows and hay meadows in collaboration with local farmers.
