Viewpoint
Begrazingsgebied
This point offers a surprising panorama over the park landscape and Huize Houdringe. On the right-hand side, your gaze is transported through the tree groups and forest edges to the horizon where Huize Houdringe and the buildings of the university complex De Uithof meet. The open areas on your left are part of the old cultural land, which belonged to the country estate Houdringe. Utrecht Landscape has fenced in part. There is now an extensive grazing policy. This means that a limited number of head of cattle per hectare is allowed. The grazing area does not fertilize but grazes. This makes the soil poorer in nutrients and allows plant species that like poor, poor soil to establish themselves again. Examples are tansy, ragwort and hornflower.
