Elsterberg
With a height of 62.5 meters, the Elsterberg, together with the Amerongse berg (69 m) and the Galgenberg (50 m), is one of the highest peaks of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. The mountains were created in the Ice Age, when a large glacier pushed up layers of sand southward in front of it. As the weather warmed, the glacier melted so that the water made its way to the edges of the moraine. The water wore out deep troughs in the subsurface and thus melted water troughs were created. The Elsterberg and the Amerongse Berg have become quite high by Dutch standards, because the lateral moraine was pushed up again by another glacier.
