Spaarnwouderplas - De Smient - Vogelkijkhut

This bird-watching hut is located on a peat meadow, surrounded by wet grasslands. Several rare birds have ever been seen such as the pond rider and American wigeon. The lake is used as a place to sleep by spoonbills and black-tailed godwits. During the day you can often see gadwall and shovelers. In winter, wigeons and many other water birds gather on and around the water. Black-tailed godwit and redshank forage on the marshy banks, where marsh endive blooms in summer.
