Slot Heemstede

The oldest castle Heemstede has been completely demolished at the end of the fourteenth century. It was then owned by Jan van Heemstede, a prominent member of the Hoekse party. In 1392 he was involved in the murder of Aleida van Poelgeest, the mistress of Duke Albrecht of Bavaria.
