Nature reserve
Tungelerwallen
The planted pine forest in this area is called the Tungelerwallen and is interspersed with patches of heather and drifting sand. The open parts are important for insects such as the ant lion and digging wasps. Furthermore, there are many grasshoppers in the area. Birds such as wood lark, tree pipit and red-breasted wheatear nest on the heath. To maintain this vegetation, the drifting sand that threatens to overgrow with forest and heather is regularly opened manually. In winter, this area is beautifully colored by the many moss species that then change color.
