Sint-Amanduskerk
The Sint-Amanduskerk was founded in honor of Sint Amandus of Maastricht. Amandus is a seventh-century Catholic saint who founded several monasteries and churches. In the seventeenth century, some Catholic churches were cleared to serve as Protestant churches, when Herongen was conquered by Frederik Hendrik from the Spanish in 1643. The Sint-Amanduskerk could still remain Catholic, because the Catholic faith was not prohibited under Frederik Hendrik.
