Chapel or cross

Sint-Josefkapel

This Chapel of Saint Joseph is a seventeenth-century chapel built in the Baroque style. While the northern part of Gelre was in the hands of the States during the Eighty Years' War and was therefore Protestant, the Overkwartier remained Catholic. New churches built in these areas, such as the Chapel of Saint Joseph, were elaborately decorated in the Baroque style. This was to reinforce the message of the Catholic faith, because the emotions of onlookers were played on.
