Church
Lambertuskerk
The Lambertus Church in Erkelenz was twice heavily damaged by war. In 1371 the church was partly destroyed when Count Engelbert III of Mark took the city. At that time, the Duchy of Guelders was weakened by the Gelderland fratricidal struggle (1350-1361) and Engelbert made good use of this. At the end of the Second World War, the church again had a hard time when the church was bombed during air raids in 1944 and 1945. The rebuilt church, as it appears today, was completed in 1954.
