Onze-Lieve-Vrouwe-van-Smartenkapel

Striking in the Limburg landscape are the many chapels that often line the road, such as this Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows. During the Eighty Years' War, present-day Limburg had remained a Catholic as part of Spanish Guelders, so that old religious customs were still largely preserved. In this chapel Mary is honored with her sorrows, including the death of her son Jesus.
