Church

Heilige Antonius van Padua kerk

The Saint Anthony of Padua Church was built in the nineteenth century, right next to the much smaller Saint Lambert Church. At the end of the Second World War the Germans wanted to slow down and stop the advance of the Allies. By blowing up the church, and thereby destroying a large part of Blerick, they hoped to prevent the Allies from using bricks from the church to rebuild the also demolished Maas bridge. Only in 1962 was a new church built on the same spot.
