With this ferry you cross the Maas, which forms the border between North Brabant and Limburg. Vlieringsbeek is located west of the Maas in Brabant and Bergen is in Limburg. The border goes far back in time, because at the time of the duchy this was also the border between the Duchy of Brabant on the one hand and the Duchy of Guelders on the other. After the creation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1830, it was no longer a duchy border but a provincial border.
