Kasteel Heijen

Heijen Castle is located in an area that once formed the boundary between the Duchy of Gelre and the Duchy of Cleves. Heijen Castle was one of the various castles that characterized this border. Heijen was a manor for a long time, which fell alternately under the Duchy of Cleves and the Duchy of Guelders. During the Eighty Years' War, the Duchy of Cleves was a strategically interesting area for both the Spaniards and the Republic. The castle was therefore damaged several times.
