Huize Veldzicht

From the Veldzicht house, the residents looked out on a field at the front (see photo from 1910). In 1868 the house was put up for sale. For sale: Country residence Veldzicht in Brummen, consisting of a 'well-equipped, very logeable, tight and strong HEERENHUIS, comprising a spacious hall and 8 rooms, 3 of which are ensuite, all with fireplaces, partly equipped with marble mantelpieces, corridor, kitchen with water and rain water pump, servants and pantry, cellar, etc. Furthermore, coach house with stable for 4 horses, construction shed with cattle shed, garden with fruit trees, gardener's house and excellent best building and pasture land, together large pm 7 bunder, most pleasantly located on the Rijksstraatweg near the railway station in Brummen (Gelderland) '. The furniture was also offered for sale, including cabinets, linen cupboards, tea tables, piano, paintings, carpets, silverware and damask. Even 'a well-known brown carriage horse' and various carriages were offered for sale. Everything left by the late Lady J. l 'Empereur Edelinck, widow of Major General WA Monhemius. In 1913 the Veldzicht country house was put up for sale again. For sale: 'Villa, coach house, garage, garden with greenhouses and fruit trees and a pedestrian park; also a farm, coachman's and gardener's house, building land and meadows, all over 26 hectares, belonging to the estate of Douari? re Jhr. Tjarda van Starkenborch Stachouwer '. Veldzicht was thus considerably expanded by the Starkenborch family from seven to 26 hectares. The buyer was Mrs. Smissaert. Around 1950, the Veldzicht house was purchased by the noble Van der Feltz family. The house was radically renovated and got a spacious hall and staircase. Currently the house is situated on a plot of more than one hectare, consisting of a deep garden with a large pond, monumental trees and the former greenhouses. One tree deserves special mention, the sequoiadendron. With a trunk circumference of 7.96 meters, this sequoia is the thickest giant sequoia in the Netherlands. It is probably also the largest tree in the Netherlands, 33.40 meters high. On Landgoed Voorstonden, also in the municipality of Brummen, there is still such a thick giant sequoia.
