Buitenplaats Bornia

In the 17th century there was a homestead here. The foundations were used in 1870 for the construction of the current white-plastered house in the neoclassical style. The client, owner and resident JJ Uyterwerff Sterling, gave his land the name Bornia, which is an old Frisian name for border area (comparable to the English 'border'). When purchased it was a large, bare heather. The new owner had it planted with trees up to Austerlitz.
