Castle
Kasteel Rossum
The history of Rossum Castle dates back to the thirteenth century, when it was probably built as a country residence. The castle was owned by the Van Rossum family, which also included the infamous Gelderland general Maarten van Rossum (1490-1555). The castle was lost in 1599 when Spanish troops besieged Zaltbommel, after which the current castle was only built in the nineteenth century. In recent years, the castle has been used as a town hall, until it became an office space in 2002.
