Luisterpaal Tweede Wereldoorlog - Groesbeek
This World War II listening pole commemorates Operation Market Garden. In September 1944, the Allies attempted to conquer the bridges over the major rivers in the Netherlands by means of an airborne offensive and a ground offensive, thus driving the Germans out of the Netherlands. The operation was unsuccessful, as they failed to get their hands on the Lek and the Rhine. Among other places, the paratroopers were dropped and the Allies literally fell 'like stars from the sky'.
