Keersluis

The flood lock is a large lock, the purpose of which was to regulate the water between the two side branches of the IJssel and thus prevent flooding of the area. In this environment a lot of attention is paid to the project 'Room for the River'. This Rijkswaterstaat project tries to create both a safer river area and an attractive living environment in river areas in the Netherlands. This policy minimizes the chances of flooding without restricting the river.
