Lichtwachtershuis

On the Noordpunt of the former island of Schokland you will find the national monument the Lichtwachterswoning. This monument at the old harbor was completed in 1901 as a new service residence for the harbor master. For example, the harbor of Emmeloord could be retained as a refuge after the evacuation of Schokland in 1859. The house is driven into the ground on no fewer than 67 piles of 8 meters in length. Together with the adjacent Misthoornhuisje, this house is on the national monument list. The light watchman's house is of great cultural-historical importance because of its link with the history of the former island of Schokland.
