Tourist landmark
Lemstersluis / Tramhaven
The Lemster lock is a lock that served as a sea lock for the construction of the Afsluitdijk. Today the lock is used for pleasure craft. The two buildings and the lockkeeper's house at the lock are built in neo-renaissance style. You will also find the Tramhaven here. From 1901 to 1947 the steam tram ran here between Lemmer and Joure. In 1968 the tram connection was closed and in 1970 it was completely removed. You can still see where the tram has run here. The station buildings are still there. Take a look here and spot the traces of the past.
