Schans

The Schans was constructed as a sea wall and as a defense work. Today these features are no longer applicable to this street, but still worth taking a look. For example, the part of the street on the sea side is a lot higher than the part opposite. Look up at the facades of the houses here, because you should not miss them. For example, take a look at the facade of the building at No. 29. This building was a synagogue until 1920. In the past, mainly craftsmen lived in this street and you would also find many shops. Nowadays you will hardly find any shops there, but there are still many people living there and you will also find cozy cafes and restaurants.
