Tourist landmark
Nieuwburen
The history of this street goes back a long way and you will find many ancient houses with beautifully decorated facades. The very first house in the street is a national monument that previously served as a town hall, but also as a district court. At the time, you found De Waag at the rear of the building. Here the products of farmers in the area were weighed and prepared for shipping. The ships could sail to De Waag via an excavated part of the land. Today this part of the street is called 'Gedempte Gracht'.
