The sheep of this flock used to belong to the various farmers in the village. The shipper picked up the sheep from the farms in the morning and brought them back in the evening. As compensation, the shipper was paid by the farmers. The Exlo? R herd was privately owned until 1960. This herd was in danger of disappearing because of the high operating costs. At the initiative of the then mayor J. van Roijen, the herd was purchased by the municipality. The flock has 200 sheep of the Drentse Heideschaap breed. During the lambing season this number doubles. The flock of sheep is housed in the sheepfold in the middle of the village of Exloo. This means that the shipper always goes straight through the village with his herd: a unique experience and a beautiful sight! The corridor through the village stops time, as it were. From the Easter holidays to the autumn holidays, the shipper and his herd go out every day. Outside this period only on weekends and during school holidays daily. On our site you can see the daily departure and arrival times
