Sluizencomplex van Spiere

The Scheldt forms the border between Spiere on the one hand and Pottes en Herinnes on the other. The Scheldt used to have a very large meander here, which made shipping very difficult on the spot. The stream was straightened in 1920. The Spiere lock was built in that period. The lock bridges a height difference of two meters.
