Aanwijsputten
De Aanwijsputten (also known as Eendeputten) is a vulnerable nature reserve, consisting of a number of historic ponds, right in the middle of the Bulskampveld forests. Field ponds were typical of the area in the past. They were created artificially for carp breeding. However, most of them disappeared when the heathland was reclaimed in the early 19th century. The Aanwijsputten now consist of about 20 large and small ponds. Since 2013, the Flemish Land Agency (VLM) has been carrying out all kinds of development works to protect the rare and endangered nature, such as fens, wet heather and alder groves. Because nature is so valuable, the area itself is not accessible. From 2017, you will be able to admire the Aanwijsputten from the front row via a new bird hide and viewing platform. The wood sculpture of the German soldier refers to the four ammunition depots from the First World War that will be made visible again.
