The neoclassical building along the market side was built around 1830 under the supervision of the Ghent architect Louis Roelandt. Behind the facade, decorated with the city coat of arms, is the large city festival hall spread over two floors. Around the courtyard are the Rococo-style buildings of the former manor house. Today, many city services are housed here. The elaborate clock facade of the main building with sundial and oculus (a small round window) is flanked by the memorial of the fallen from 1830 and the bronze statue of Ondineke. Feel free to step through the green gate to the courtyard, and continue through the pedestrian passage to the back courtyard of the town hall. There you can view the beautifully renovated rear facade.
