The origin of this parish church with the somewhat strange name can be found in the 12th century. The valuable Romanesque choir crypt, which was mentioned as a place of pilgrimage as early as 1252, has been preserved. The miraculous statue of the Virgin Mary made of polychrome lime wood was restored in 1973. In a niche is the marble tomb of Pedro Coloma, lord of Bornem, who died in 1621. Coloma is an important figure in the history of Bornem, he took many initiatives to help the Scheldt municipality move forward. For example, Coloma founded the abbey.
