Monument

Haverwerf

Before you cross the Dyle again, look at the three remarkable houses by the bridge. They are three legendary inns from the 16th and 17th centuries. The corner house is called Het Paradijske. The reliefs above the windows depict the scenes 'The earthly paradise' and 'The tree of the knowledge of good and evil'. In the center is De Duiveltjes, one of the most beautiful wooden facades in Belgium. It is named after the devils that act as pillars. Above the entrance door you see a bas-relief with the unfortunate story of the Prodigal Son, about a rich man who wastes his money on women and beer, but ends up in the stable with the pigs. On the left is the house of Saint Joseph, with the relief of Saint Joseph with the child Jesus in the center.
