Sint-Romboutskathedraal

In St. Rumbold's Cathedral you will find the tomb of Cardinal Mercier. Cardinal and Archbishop D? Sir? -Joseph Mercier, along with Mayor Charles Dessain, was one of the key figures in the resistance against the German occupier during the First World War. Mercier drew attention to German terror in letters and he called for patriotism. He even openly expressed his belief in an Allied victory. Mercier was received internationally as the figurehead of the anti-German resistance. Later he became world famous as the driving force behind the Mechelen discussions about a possible reunification of the Catholic and the Anglican Church. Take a look at the tomb of this special cardinal in this cathedral. The tower of this cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
