Koeneschans

The Koeneschans, a former ski island in the peat river Vlist, was part of the Old Dutch Waterline. This water line was to protect the Dutch cities against invasion by enemy armies by flooding parts of the country. This made passage for armies with their heavy equipment impossible. If the water line was put into operation and the surrounding land was flooded, the Koeneschans would remain high and dry and the surrounding area could be defended from here. Visible elements in the vicinity of the ramp, which remind of the line, are the route? of the French Quay and the dikes along the Vlist. Look through the 'binoculars' pole and discover the past of this historic place.
