Beklimming Maalbekerweg

The Holtm? Hle nature reserve measures 149 ha and is linked to the German nature reserve Ravensheide. Within the area lies the transition from the middle terrace to the high terrace of the Maas, a steep edge of about 20 meters high. In the direction of the German border, the altitude rises to more than 45 meters above NAP. The Klei van Tegelen is located on the high terrace and in the northern part of the area there are some quarries for the ceramic industry. There are four quarries, two of which are still partially in operation. In the quarries that are fully or partially exploited, new nature is being developed, resulting in a very varied and attractive area. The high terrace is now planted with coniferous wood, while some heather remnants are also present. The Maalbeek, which has its source near the Maalbekerh? He to the east of Belfeld, provides drainage for the area. Together with the Veenbeek, it forms the Aalsbeek, which flows in a northerly direction parallel to the steep edge and then bends to the west, past the Castle Holtm? Hle, to flow directly south of Steijl into the Maas.
