Tourist idea
Distelbelt
The Distelbelt is a viewing hill in the M? Lnmarsch area. From this hill, for which 200,000 m3 of sand was excavated, you have a beautiful view over the river Vecht. The river Vecht has a length of 167 kilometers, from its source at Darfeld in Germany to the Zwarte Water in Zwolle. The Vecht is sometimes called the largest small river in the Netherlands or the smallest large river. This river is actually exactly in between a large and a small river. The river is usually calm nowadays, but that used to be different. The Vecht has a rich history with shipping, fishing and agricultural activities. During the heyday of the river, dozens of ships came and went here every day. The ships sailed here to transport Bentheim sandstone to Zwolle. The building material was shipped worldwide from Zwolle. It was used, among other things, for the base of the American Statue of Liberty and for the Palace on the Dam.
