Cunerakerk

The Cunerakerk is Rhenen's main church. It is a relatively large church, due to the fact that Rhenen was an important pilgrimage site in the Middle Ages. The pilgrims came to the relics of Saint Cunera, which were worshiped here from the eighth century. The pride of the church is the 82 meter high tower. A special feature of the interior is the beautiful renaissance-style oval from around 1550. It is one of the few preserved oks in the Netherlands. It is decorated with allegorical representations of the three cardinal virtues of faith, hope and love. Part of the figurative sculpture has disappeared. The choir contains carved choir stalls from 1570. All year round you can go for guided tours of the church and you can climb the tower. You can book guided tours through the tourist office in Rhenen.
