Church

Sint-Maartenskerk

The St. Martin's Church was built in Kortrijk between 1390 and 1466. This church served as a replacement for the ruined Gothic St. Martin's Church that was burned down by a lightning strike. The first church that stood on this spot was a Romanesque church that grew out of a place of worship from 650. The St. Martin's Church is therefore by no means the first church on this spot. The eye-catcher of this church is the 83-meter high tower with a carillon of 49 bells, but the inside of the church is also worth a visit. There you will find all kinds of art treasures such as the 'Triptych of the Holy Spirit', the pulpit from the 17th century and the first sacrament tower from the 16th century. You will also find a treasury here full of beautiful textiles and silverware. The church cannot be visited during worship services, but otherwise the church is open almost every day. Take a look for yourself in this beautifully preserved church.
