Gentpoort

The Ghent Gate is one of the remaining city gates of Bruges. This gate used to be part of the second city wall of Bruges, which was built between 1297 and 1304. The current gate was built at the same time as the Kruispoort and the Katelijnepoort at the beginning of the 15th century. The Kruispoort can still be found on the outskirts of Bruges, but nothing remains of the Katelijnepoort. The city gates used to be used to allow goods and people into the city, but also to protect the city from intruders. In the Gentpoort you will find a museum dedicated to the history of the city gates. So you can use a crossbow to test whether you are a good shooter. In the past, the city was defended by gunmen, among other things. You also have a beautiful view of the city from the highest point of the Ghent Gate. The gate can be visited on Saturdays and Sundays.
