Windmill
Sint-Janshuismolen
The Sint-Janshuismolen is located on the edge of the center of Bruges. The current flour mill dates from 1770, but before that there were already two other mills on the same site. The mill is named after the guest house of Sint-Jan. The mill has had several owners, including a free baker. In 1914 the city of Bruges bought the mill with the plan to demolish the mill. That plan was ultimately never implemented, because people recognized the value of one of the last mills on the fortresses of Bruges. Instead, the mill was restored and in 1964 a volunteer miller started running the mill again on weekends. Even today, grain is still milled in the Sint-Janshuismolen by voluntary millers. In 2001 the mill was thoroughly restored. Would you like to visit the mill and see how it is inside a mill? This is possible from April to September from Tuesday to Sunday.
