Beursgebouw

The Brussels Stock Exchange was built between 1868 and 1873. The building has long served as a home for the Brussels Public Funds Exchange. Before that the stock exchange was located in different buildings, but when the stock exchange started to grow around the year 1858, there was a need for its own stock exchange building. The architect Leon Suys was selected by the municipality to design this building. The stock exchange building was built on the site of the monastery of the Friars Minor. From 1874, the stock exchange activities could be performed from this building. In the building there are numerous sculptures made by different artists. The building has been renovated several times over the centuries. For example, a third floor was added to the building and the building was reinforced with reinforced concrete. In 1996 the securities market became electronic and the function of the stock exchange building was lost. Today the building serves as an experience center for Belgisch Beer.
