Stadhuis Brussel

The town hall is an iconic building on the Grand Place in the center of Brussels. This fine piece of architecture was built here in the 15th century and the inside of the town hall is just as beautiful as the outside. Here you will find paintings, sculptures and tapestries depicting various scenes from the history of Belgium. portray. Some rooms in the town hall are decorated in the Louis XIV style, while other rooms are decorated in the style of the beginning of the 18th century. In short, a tour of the town hall is absolutely worthwhile. The town hall is made of sandstone from the Dilbeek quarries a few kilometers away. The tower of the town hall is 96 meters high and on top of the tower is a statue of the Archangel Michael who fell a dragon. In 1695 the building was damaged during bombardments by French troops. The town hall caught fire and only the walls and the tower were still standing. The town hall has since been thoroughly restored.
