Castle

Slot Hueth

This castle was built in the 14th century and it is surrounded by a moat. The castle consists of a fortress and a main castle. During the Second World War this castle was occupied by the Germans. The battalion hid within the strong castle walls. Things got serious at the end of March when the Allies tried to cross the Rhine to liberate the Netherlands. The castle collapsed under a large number of bombs and grenades on March 26 and 27, 1945. After the war the castle was partially rebuilt as an emergency accommodation. People from the nearby badly affected Ruhr area were able to find temporary shelter here. Apartments are now located in the old castle. Only the rear part of the building and the corner tower of the original castle are still standing. The right outer bailey is still a ruin.
