Chapel or cross
Bedevaartsoord Drieboomkensberg
This pilgrimage site is dedicated to Our Lady of the Fever. The resort is located on the highest peak of a group of inland dunes. In 1746 the 'Convoy Battle' took place in Drieboomkensberg during the 'Succession War'. An English officer was seriously injured in the process and promised to build a chapel if he survived the battle alive. His prayers were answered and around 1750 he had a chapel built here. However, this chapel was destroyed in 1800 by a terrible storm. The chapel was no longer rebuilt. However, a statue of Mary was hung on one of the three larches on the hill. This statue can still be found in Drieboomkensberg. In the area you will find the beautiful Kempen forests and the ancient Zandven. The ideal environment to unwind, find contemplation and enjoy the silence. A nice change from everyday life full of hectic and noise.
