Abdij van Onze Lieve Vrouw van het Heilig Hart van Westmalle

Call us Visit the website
Some monks of the Cistercian order settled in Westmalle in 1794. It took a while, but in 1814 the monks were able to settle here permanently. The current monastery buildings were put into use from 1902. The monastery has a farm with more than a hundred dairy cows, a cheese dairy and a brewery. You will also find a valuable library and old manuscripts and paintings. The neo-Romanesque abbey church dates from 1886. The monks pray, study and work in a fraternal society and restrained tranquility. That is why you cannot visit the abbey and the brewery. However, the guesthouse is open to those looking for peace and quiet. You can also buy cheese from the doorman on working days. The Trappist Path (8 km via the Kempense Hoven hiking network) and the Trappist Route (44 km) cycle loop start at the abbey's lane. Afterwards, enjoy a sandwich with Trappist cheese or Trappist cheese croquettes in a café with a glass of Trappist cheese. Trappists, on the other side of the Antwerpsesteenweg.
