The Roerdriehoek Museum tells the war history of the area around Montfort. Montfort was located in the so-called Roerdriehoek, a bend in the front line between German and Allied troops at the beginning of January 1945. The front line ran along part of the Maas and through Susteren towards Kerkrade. With Operation Blackcock, British troops tried to advance to the Meuse and drive the German troops beyond the river. During this operation from 16 to 27 January, the fighting was so fierce that many villages and towns were damaged. Monfort was hit by Canadian bombing on January 12 and 22, which killed many civilians. The facade of the museum also bears traces of the fierce battle.
