Begijnhof Herentals

This beguinage is the oldest in the Kempen. It was founded before 1266 and flourished. In 1578 it was completely destroyed by the Calvinists. A new beguinage was built and in 1614 the new Gothic church was completely built. This Saint Catherine's Church was recently beautifully restored. The beguinage has two entrance gates: in the Begijnenstraat and in the Burchtstraat. Last renovation completed in 2005.
