This unique beguinage was founded around 1300. It burned down in 1552 and under Archdukes Albert and Isabella the court was rebuilt again. When you walk towards the beguinage square you walk through a high gate with a statue of St. Begga above the entrance. The quiet beguinage consists of an elongated square with lawns. Old seventeenth-century houses surround the square. The beguinage was recognized as a World Heritage Site in 1998.
