The DRU Factory originated from an old iron foundry, where mainly cannon balls and firebacks were made. In 1774 the iron foundry was taken over and the DRU factory was born. The factory's production shifted to windows, grates and enamel casseroles, bathtubs, fireplaces and gas radiators. Until 2003, the DRU Factory continued to renew and expand, but at a certain point the buildings became too old for modern production. That is why the factory's doors were closed for good in 2003. Today this factory is a meeting place for cultural and creative activities and gatherings. The DRU Cultuurfabriek has been located in one of the seven buildings of the old factory since 2009. Here you will find a theater, a pop stage, a grand café? and several meeting rooms. Furthermore, the music school, a gallery, the library and a Turkish cultural center are located there. In this way the old factory is kept alive. The culture factory is open every day from 08.30 on weekdays and from 10.00 on weekends.
